Border Collies are bright, busy dogs that usually stay mentally sharp for a long time. Keeping their minds busy with games and training helps them age well.
A 5-year-old Border Collie is about 37 in human years, and a 10-year-old is about 60.
In a 2024 study led by Dogs Trust, published in Scientific Reports, which looked at more than half a million UK dogs, half of Border Collies lived to 13.1 or older. That's longer than dogs overall, and about the same as a person reaching 74.
